I have always followed the Japanese philosophy of Kaizen, meaning continuous improvement. I believe you are only as good as your latest achievement, while this is even more true in the SEO industry, as it is ever changing and it is imperative to stay ahead of the game. I, therefore, would like to share some blogs which I have found both informative and inspirational over the years.
Search Engine Land
This is probably the most well-known SEO blog in the world, for good reason. They always release in-depth articles on the latest tactics and search trends, offering guidance on how to improve your campaigns.
Search Engine Watch
While the posts tend to be quite a lot shorter than Searchengineland, they are more reactive to what is happening within the industry, therefore I like to bookmark this page in order to keep up with anything new that has occurred.
Webmaster YouTube Channel
Nowadays we shouldn’t see blogs as just a written location, we also have to consider vlogs. Every Friday the Webmaster YouTube channel releases a new video in English (they also release other videos every week in different languages), which discusses a large number of topics. What I really like about these videos is people in similar situations to you get to ask questions, so you can directly hear from a Google representative the best tactic to overcome an issue.
Search Engine Round Table
Even shorter than Search Engine Watch, these articles can sometimes be just a single paragraph, however Barry Schwartz is always quick to get the information out to you as soon as it is released. He also communicates with members at Google on a regular basis, so he’s a man in a high place.
Moz
The White Board Friday’s are quite basic and certainly appeal to a more wider audience rather than an SEO veteran, so don’t expect to learn much if you have been in the game for a while. On the other hand, I find some of the other blog posts they produce through the week are top notch, while they also have an amazing YouMoz section of guest posts, with many brilliant and heavily detailed posts.
Quick Sprout
If you haven’t heard the name Neil Patel then you need to do some more reading. He is a big player in the industry, often speaking at conferences and on many other sites, however this is his personal site where he publishes some in-depth articles.
Yoast
The brilliant, SEO-friendly WordPress plugin, Yoast also produces regular content to bring people into their site. They have also done a number of good surveys over the years.
KISSmetrics
This blog focuses much more on CRO and analytics, however in my eyes the old SEO role doesn’t exactly exist anymore. Now as digital marketers, we need a strong knowledge of SEO, PR, Content, Analytics, PPC, CRO and many other topics, so a site such as Kissmetrics can help to fill in some of the blanks you may have, as well as helping to enhance your conversion rate.
Raven Tools
Known as an SEO tool, Raven Tools are another site that promotes their tool sales by creating an absolutely brilliant content strategy. Rather than focusing on breaking news, this site will go for more evergreen tactics and discuss them in detail.
Copy Blogger
If your role involves content at all, or at least management of a content team or strategy then this should be your go-to resource. They also have a podcast which I’m always a fan of, as this offers an opportunity to learn while on the go. I recommend downloading the lot and playing them on your journey to or from work.
Do you agree with my top ten? Are there any that you feel should have made the list? Do let me know, I always love to hear about new blogs in my industry.
